FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT RESIDENTIAL SERVICES
We have compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions regarding pest control in and around your home. If you can't find the answer to your question or query here please Contact Us and we will be happy to answer it directly.
What is involved in a residential pest service?
A standard residential treatment involves the application of residual spray to the external (outside), internal (inside) and roof void.
Outside we apply residual product to the walls, eves, gutters and window sills of the house. We also treat the gardens, pathways, fences and any external structures on your property such as a pool area, bbq area or shed. If your home has a piered foundation the technician will also apply residual product in the subfloor.
Inside we apply a residual product to the accessible skirting boards and, depending on the treatment booked, a gel product may be applied to the hinges and corners of your kitchen, laundry and bathroom cupboards. We also apply a dust product in the roof void.
Is it safe?
Many people are concerned with safety of the products used for pest control. The suppliers of most of our products state they are safe for use around children and pets, except in the case of fish which will be required to be covered for the duration of the treatment. Many of the products we use are nature identical versions of chemicals found in the environment. For example the product we use on the exterior of your home is a synthetic pyrethroid - modelled on the extract pyrethrum from the Pyrethrum Daisy.
How long do I have to stay out of the house?
With a standard residential treatment you don't have to leave your home unless you prefer to. Generally speaking, once any liquid treatment has dried it is safe to enter the area that has been treated. In some cases of severe infestation or for some specific pests, treatment may involve applying pesticides into the atmosphere or use of fine mists and will require you to leave the premises for a period of time. The technician will advise you if this is necessary or you can discuss this when you make your booking.
Some people however can be highly sensitive, and if you are concerned or have a sensitive person (such as a severe asthmatic) in the home it may be recommended that they leave while to treatment is being completed. If this is a concern in your home we suggest you Contact Us and also discuss any medical or allergic conditions with your doctor.
Do I have to empty my cupboards?
No. Generally for a residential treatment there is no need to empty your cupboards. We do recommend that you seal or cover any open food stuffs.
Will you still do the treatment if it rains?
We are still able to complete work on overcast and cloudy days. If it is raining on the day of your booking, the technician will give you a call before he arrives to discuss the conditions and decide with you whether to go ahead with the treatment or rebook for another time.
What if it rains afterwards, will the treatment be washed away?
No. The product we use on the outside of your home has an ingredient in the mix which sets the residual to the bricks and concrete. Think of the paint on your home. Once it is dry it is set and does not wash off. This is a similar effect with the outdoor product. Also pests generally hide and breed in cracks and crevices away from the rain and so these are the areas we focus on during the treatment.
How much does it cost?
This varies depending on the size of your home and yard and the pests you need treated. Our General Residential Service treats for large cockroaches, ants, spiders and silverfish. A General Residential Service for a 3 bed single level home starts from $180.00 (Inc. GST). Click through to our Free Quote Form and we will send you a free quote specific to your property.
